As we are entering the last ten nights of Ramadan, we will seek the immense reward of Laylatul Qadr, the noblest of all nights which is better than a thousand months.
We already know that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Feed the hungry, visit the sick, and set the captives free.” Bukhari
Ibn Taymiyyah said: “Freeing the prisoners is one of the greatest compulsory deeds and spending ransom money and other means towards that, is one of the greatest ways to come close to Allah.” Al-Qurtubi said: “Our scholars have said that ransoming the prisoners with money is waajib (obligatory), even if one dirham does not remain in the Islamic Treasury.” This should be sufficient for us to donate to CAGE, but just in case, here are 10 more unique reasons to give your zakah and sadaqa to CAGE during the last 10 nights of Ramadan.
1. CAGE speaks truth to power
A man asked the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, “What is the best jihad?” The Prophet said, “A word of truth in front of a tyrannical ruler.” Musnad Aḥmad 18449 CAGE speaks truth to power, because we’re independent of vested interests and state funding.
2. CAGE stands for justice without distinction
“You who believe, uphold justice and bear witness to God, even if it is against yourselves, your parents, or your close relatives. Whether the person is rich or poor, God can best take care of both. Refrain from following your own desire, so that you can act justly— if you distort or neglect justice, God is fully aware of what you do.” 4:135 CAGE fights in the tradition of those who throughout history stood against injustice and paid a high price for that honour.
3. CAGE defends the rights of the oppressed
“If anyone relieves a Muslim believer from one of the hardships of this worldly life, Allah will relieve him of one of the hardships of the Day of Resurrection.” Muslim CAGE has over a decade of experience in providing a unique service to the community, offering confidential and informed advice to those impacted by counter-terrorism legislation.
4. CAGE protects dawah
Supporting CAGE means that you support many dawah organisations, activities and speakers because CAGE protects the space in which they are active. Shaykh Haitham al Haddad said: “Supporting CAGE is in fact supporting many dawah activities, many dawah organisations and many duaat (callers to Islam)".
5. CAGE has been leading campaigns against Guantanamo and PREVENT
CAGE has stood for just causes way before they became popular. CAGE was one of the first organisations to campaign for the release of Muslims illegally detained in Guantanamo . Nearly 700 have been released since. CAGE, from as early as 2011, has helped lead the campaign against PREVENT, which is now widely accepted as a failed policy.
6. CAGE gives a voice to the voiceless
CAGE helps give a voice to the survivors of the War on Terror by bringing their stories into the mainstream. Aafia Siddiqui, Babar Ahmad, Shaker Aamer, Mahdi Hashi are some of them.
7. Survivors rule
CAGE is the only Muslim organisation that is lead by and places at its heart the survivors of the War on Terror.
8. No bank account!
CAGE has operated without a bank account for over two years! Without your support we cannot continue.
9. CAGE does not compromise
CAGE takes a moral stance on all counter-terrorism policy that infringes on basic rights. We refuse to compromise on the rule of law and what is just.
10. JUSTICE must still be established
CAGE needs to survive because oppressive policies such as PREVENT must still be fought and the perpetrators of crimes in the War on Terror must still be brought to justice.
