Bangladeshis Topple Hasina's Reign of Terror
London - CAGE International congratulates the brave people of Bangladesh for toppling the tyrannical regime of Sheikh Hasina.
The Students Against Discrimination movement should be commended for its steadfastness in challenging Hasina’s brutality and ending her reign of terror.
During Hasina’s years in power, Bangladesh witnessed the use of executions, torture, forced disappearances, and arbitrary detention against scholars and political dissidents. The people have now ousted a dictator who was propped up by the international community, especially the UK and India.
The people of Bangladesh should continue their protests until there is a full overhaul of the system that upheld Hasina’s rule. This must include full accountability for the crimes committed over the years by judges, police, law enforcement, and complicit politicians, and the immediate release of all political prisoners. There must also be concerted efforts to expose and hold to account nations that protected Hasina despite widespread evidence of human rights abuses.
Today, Bangladesh is correcting course, and we stand united with its people in their fight for peace and justice.
