Brexit Britain can look forwards only by addressing its past and being just for the future

London - On Brexit Day, as calls increase for Britain to open a new chapter with the world, CAGE Director, Dr Adnan Siddiqui affirms that this must be based upon values of justice and accountability. He said: “If the Government is truly committed to beginning a new chapter in Britain’s history, then it must start by addressing its historic wrongs, enshrine processes of true accountability and engage with the world on the basis of mutual respect.”   “There are genuine concerns that many of the hard-won protections we enjoy, including human rights, are under threat due to Brexit. The Government must commit to not undermining the progress which society has made in securing these rights. The government can begin by engaging with our proposals for a healthy, safe society in our Beyond Prevent report.” “Our role in exposing state overreach and batting back against the erosion of the rule of law and the far-right tide, will not waver. Deal or no deal, CAGE will continue empowering communities, being a voice for the voiceless and campaigning for justice. That is our deal.”   Photo by Franz Wender on Unsplash
