Over 400 Uk Imams And Scholars Rally Behind Muslim NGOs Targeted By New Extremism Definition
London - In a unified stand against the government's attempt to stifle voices demanding accountability over the Government’s complicity in the genocide unfolding in Gaza, over 400 Imams and scholars across the UK have rejected Michael Gove's new definition of extremism. In a joint statement, they pledged their support for CAGE International, as well as MEND and The Muslim Association of Britain.
The statement highlights the deeply concerning implications of the government's actions, noting the flawed notion that ideology is the cause of political violence. It also exposes Mr. Gove's neoconservative beliefs, his history of targeting Islam and Muslims under the label of "Islamism" and his connections with pro-Israel lobbies that propagate Islamophobia.
The Imams also call upon the Muslim community and supporters of political integrity to support CAGE International, MEND and The Muslim Association of Britain.
The rallying of the Muslim community behind these NGOs reveals the impact and broad appeal of our work. CAGE International will continue empowering Muslim communities and challenging state abuses in the UK and across the world, as we work collectively to a just and fair world.
Anas Mustapha, Head of Public Advocacy said of CAGE said:
“This is a landmark statement that represents a total rejection of the rationale behind Islamophobic counter extremism policies. It's a significant intervention that demonstrates the deep support CAGE International has within its community.”
