Pro-Palestine Activist targeted in Zionist harassment campaign

Abdurrahman Ezz, a journalist, political campaigner, and survivor of Egypt's Rab'a massacre, is set to appear in court today following two malicious hate crime complaints filed by a former Israeli military intelligence officer. These charges are part of a sustained campaign of harassment stemming from an altercation at an anti-genocide protest in Edinburgh earlier this year.

The accusations were filed by a prominent member of the Scottish Council of Jewish Communities, who is also a former Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) pilot and military intelligence officer, following deliberate provocation at an otherwise peaceful protest.

Now a political refugee in Scotland, Abdurrahman Ezz is a committed human rights defender, journalist, and former TV news correspondent from Egypt. He was an active member of the 6th of April Youth Movement and has faced relentless harassment and surveillance by the Israeli Zionist lobby in Britain. This targeting stems from his unwavering support for Palestinian independence and outspoken criticism of atrocities in Gaza. Ezz has endured repeated attempts to hinder his work, including invasive airport stops aimed at extracting intelligence allegedly shared with Egyptian authorities, putting his family’s safety at risk.

CAGE stands in full solidarity with Abdurrahman Ezz and is actively monitoring the legal proceedings against him. This case represents yet another disturbing example of the misuse of legal mechanisms to silence human rights defenders and pro-Palestine activists. 

We call on the community and media to stand with Ezz and reaffirm his fundamental right to free expression. Protecting these rights is crucial not only for Ezz but also for preserving the values of justice and safeguarding the freedoms of all those who advocate for human rights and social justice.
