Statement from Abu Anas Al-Libi's family regarding his death in US custody

<em>On 10 January 2015 a Janazah (funeral) was held for Nazeeh Abdul-Hamed Nabih al-Ruqai'i (also known as Abu Anas Al Libi) after he passed away in US custody last week.</em> <div style="text-align: center;"><img style="width: 226px; height: 260px;" src="https://cage.ngo/wp-content/uploads/abu_anas_0.jpg" alt="" /></div> <div></div> Nazeeh suffered a number of injustices that included the harassment of him and his family while they lived in the UK and the raiding, several times of his home by British police despite his never being charged with any offence. The US orchestrated his kidnapping while Libya was in a state of turmoil after the Libyan revolution despite Nazeeh being ready to face judicial inquiry in Libya. He was then detained on a US navy ship in international waters in an attempt to escape all legal obligations. During this time, according to his lawyer: “his interrogators made both explicit and implicit statements that physical torture, or transfer to one of the infamous CIA prison sites, would surely follow the [onboard] interrogation,” in an attempt to force him into confessing. The lawyer further added that his client underwent “unlawful, threatening, and abusive interrogation techniques.” The <em>Janazah </em>held in Martyrs’ Square in Libya was attended by many people. The Minister of Health spoke on behalf of the government and said that Nazeeh’s case would be pursued for the injustices he suffered, and that all Libyans in jails in the US and UAE must be immediately released, and, if there was evidence that they had committed a crime, be tried in Libya. He promised to look after and help Nazeeh’s family who have given so much in the cause of Allah and have been prominent in defending Libyans from tyranny. Abul Raoof Almanaee, a member of the newly elected Parliament also spoke and sought from Obama, an apology to Nazeeh’s family for all they had endured. In addition a Libyan Scholar urged all Libyans and Muslims to raise concerns as to the suspicious circumstances of Nazeeh's death, and that the actual cause of death must be revealed. <div></div> <div></div> <div><strong>Nazeeh’s son Ahmad has written this statement in memory of his father:</strong></div> <div></div> <div></div> <div></div> <div style="text-align: left;"><span dir="RTL">إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُدَافِعُ عَنِ الَّذِينَ آَمَنُوا إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ كُلَّ خَوَّانٍ كَفُور  </span></div> <div></div> <div></div> <em>Indeed, Allah defends those who have believed. Indeed, Allah does not like everyone treacherous and ungrateful</em>. <strong>(Qur’an 22:38.)</strong> <div></div> Our hearts are deeply saddened and wrenched with pain for the departure of our beloved father who left this world whilst enduring injustice, falsely accused and denied his rights. <div></div> My pain is further deepened as I remember the mistreatment he faced at the hands of state terrorists, who shackled and kidnapped him from his country with the assistance of some fellow Libyans who were willing to sell their honour and the independence of their nation in exchange for a small financial gain. <div></div> Adel Al-Masry, who was incarcerated alongside him in America said that our beloved father was maltreated from the moment he set foot in prison and was denied medical care, causing his health to rapidly deteriorate. <div></div> Our dear father, we will not forget neither will we get over what happened to you at the hands of the American murderers, who prevented us from visiting you and deprived us of seeing you. <div></div> We will not forgive the traitorous Libyan officials who let you down and failed you despite you always defending them and suspending your life making sacrifices for the cause of human dignity and freedom for the Libyan people. You suffered for this cause your whole life, moving from one country to another and losing your son as a martyr in the process. What you received in return was ingratitude, denial and false accusations without any proof, charge or trial. <div></div> My father handed himself to the authorities on several occasions, and was told repeatedly there were no charges against him whatsoever. <div></div> My dear father, rest in peace, in paradise – God willing.
