US and Canada Proscribe ‘Samidoun’ in Defence of Israel’s Genocide
London – The United States and Canada have officially proscribed Samidoun, the Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network, as part of their ongoing support for Israel’s genocide in Gaza. This comes amid severe prisoner abuse in Israeli Occupation Forces' torture camps.
Highlighting the hypocrisy of this move, as recently as 2022, the U.S. State Department used Samidoun’s research in its annual country human rights reports. The political witch-hunt against Samidoun follows Germany’s ban on the group and the silencing of its international coordinator in Canada, where she endured six months of restrictive conditions following an arrest, despite no charges being filed.
This proscription reflects a broader trend of criminalising liberation movements, particularly in Palestine, to shield the Zionist entity and appease its powerful lobby in Western capitals.
This proscription sets a dangerous precedent, creating a template for targeting all pro Palestine civil society organisations. It is crucial that we register our outrage and refuse to allow this repressive action to become normalised.
As violence from the Zionist entity escalates, this move aims to silence survivors of Israeli atrocities, especially political prisoners.
CAGE International stands in full solidarity with Samidoun, supporting its unwavering dedication to advocating for the Palestinian people, exposing the brutal conditions faced by political prisoners in Palestine, and condemning the role of Western governments in the ongoing genocide.
